More on the iMac

Well well, yesterday I was helping some alts run thru Maraudon, it was a while since I went there and I got amazed by how the instance looked on the iMac, lol :P

For a couple of days, tho, I’ve been experiencing a weird glitch: sometimes the screen gets on some weird colors and starts blinking, but it only happens with WoW. Since I turned off an option it’s no longer happening, tho, or at least I haven’t seen it again. These are the current settings of my WoW Client

I’ve also installed Boot Camp (I think I mentioned it, not sure, tho) and CrossOver, which is nice because last week I was trying to get into a vent server that didn’t have Speex Codec, so I couldn’t use my Vent Mac Client. After I installed CrossOver I managed to get Window’s Ventrilo Client and even tho it’s not perfect I’m able to listen people ^_^ I still haven’t really tested CrossOver because I don’t have anything to test it with, lol (if I could get some Windows games, lol, but oh well).

Hi Gahlok, I like your website. Your mac is nice and I plan to buy one too since I am going to reactivate my account. Sorry if this sound stupid (im not good with computers) but does the imac alone allow u to play wow or does it need a cpu? (i rather new to macs)

    Hello.

The iMac is an All-in-One kind of desktop. In the 2-inch thickness monitor you get everything: the monitor, the CPU, the CD/DVD drive, speakers, etc. Even tho it’s in all-in-one, it’s almost a semi-professional computer. That being said, it has enough power for basic and almost professional users (and these computers are also used on the professional ground as well).

If you want more information, I would recommend going to http://www.apple.com/imac :)

Gahlok, it sounds good. Also, a WoW-Review with an ATI X1600 helped me to think about buying a X1600, too. Its the slowest card of the X1000-series of ATI, but it seems that this card is on a minimum as fast as the X850-Pro, am I right?

I have a PC, with a Intel P4 2.53 GHz (no HT) and I have 1GB of RAM. My PC only has a AGP-Slot but the X1600/X1650 Pro-Cards with 256 or 512MB are aviable for AGP, so I’m thinking about to buy one.

Actually, I have a ATI Radeon 9600, and the maximum FPS with 20 or more players on my screen are 10fps, so that’s not really funny. I hope the X1600 will give me >30fps. When I have the card I may replay to this post and tell how it went :)

I’ve got an older Mac and I love it. However the current 24″ iMacs are certainly getting me back into new computer lust. Sure I could upgrade my video card and monitor to get better performance, but the all in one package is almost too tempting to resist…

Well… i have an iMac too and even if it is “just” an iMac G5 i have to say that the colors are just amazing. Maraudon in particular.

…i cannot play with your settings anyway…. alas :/

I have to say: the X1600 graphiccards rocks! I bought the 512MB AGP edition, and I use the same settings as you Gahlok, but the resolution is only 1024×768 pixels due to my monitor). I have >70fps and that’s playable while it looks damn nice. Really damn nice :) Thanks for your tip.
