Outrageous!!

Posted by: Gahlok In: General

I felt like writing a huge block of text today, since my site lacks of updates. Raid-wise, not much has been going on (different to my last post). We are still cleaning Hyjal and Black Temple in two days. I’ve also managed to get the Pendant of Titans from RoS and the Shadowmoon Insignia from Gurtogg. Also yesterday I finally managed to get exalted with Scale of Sands (rep you gain in Hyjal). Took me this long because I switch with people on some fights (and getting rep there is sooooo slow compared to Black Temple).

For a couple of days I’ve been trying to improve my tanking gear. Nothing is written on stone, so right now I’m trying to get a bit more hit to see if my threat can go up (not like I have issues with threat, but having more is always good^^). It’s amazing, if you can get a Vindicator’s Dragonhide Bracers, those little 0.48% resilience allows you to play a lot with your defense; even if it seems insignificant. I’ve never really been too deep into theory, but after searching a bit I managed to get things in order.

    • A druid needs to have 2.56% (I think? I read it somewhere in WoW forums, but the forums are blocked here @ work) decrease on crit (to become immune to them), rounding it it would end up with 2.6%. For this you need to have SoF (Survival of the Fittest talent 3/3) and 415 defense.
    • The easiest way to calculate the % you have to do this: defense rating / 60. For example, my current defense rating is 129 / 60 = 2.15%.
    • Now, things get easier here. The only thing left to do is adding 2.15% (from defense) with the 0.48% from resilience, ends up with 2.63%, which is the goal we need.

By just dividing your defense rating with 60 you can easily calculate stuff. Right now what I have is probably not my final goal, I’m still not sure what I want to aim for (either hit, crit or hp). I’ve ended up thinking that we shouldn’t really sacrifice too much hp to be able to gain agility (which most druids do), because we not always tank melee mobs, but also casters (and some of them really hurt, like the necromancers in Hyjal).

For people that like programs, I know that there’s a dude (Astrylian) that makes one called Rawr, which calculates gear and such. For those (like me) that use Mac, sadly the program is only made for Windows, but if you have an Intel Mac, the guy posted a work-around to it:

For those looking forward to Rawr for Mac… My #1 priority at the moment is Rawr.Cat. Once that’s released, I’ll focus on Rawr for Mac. Until I’ve got that released, if you’ve got an Intel machine, I just tried and successfully ran Rawr on OSX using CrossOver and Mono for Windows. First, Install CrossOver (free trial for 30 days) from codeweavers.com. Then download Mono for Windows from mono-project.com. Then open CrossOver, and choose Install Software. Click Install Unsupported software, and give it the exe for Mono for Windows. Once that install process is completed, goto the Programs menu in CrossOver, and choose Reveal Folder. Drop the Rawr b9a (or whatever version) folder in that folder. Go back to CrossOver, and choose Programs>Run Prompt. Click Browse, find Rawr.exe and hit OK. Hit Run.

Poof, you’ve got (an ugly and somewhat slow refreshing version of) Rawr, on OSX.

I tried to use it a while ago but it had some weird glitches (the menus would go to the back so it was hard to switch between stuff) so I gave up.

Hmm… what else… Oh, lately I’ve also been leveling my rogue (he’s like 64 right now); he used to be my very first character, until I switched to play a druid. I think I’m missing something… /shrugs I’ll leave it for the next update.

If you’re interested in the ruminations, observations, and other “-ations” of a raiding lock about two instances behind your progression level, link me up!

Oh and it’s always nice to swing by frostbolt.com and see an update every now and then. How’s your rogue liking those warglaives?

Well yeah… by “your” I meant “your guild’s.” This English language thing eludes me sometimes. :-/
